ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Phoebe's physician group was on site at the marathon to make sure the chilly weather and injuries didn't get the best of marathon runners on Saturday.

When running in cold weather runners can develop cramps,  tightening of muscles, hypothermia, and other temperature related issues. Physicians and trainers were there to keep runners safe, active and healthy by providing treatment such as massages, ice and chicken broth to restore runner's electrolytes.

"We've already had about 15-20 runners with cold weather exposure and hypothermic issues as well as plenty of cramping and muscle straining issues," said marathon medical director Dr. Kiyoshi Yamazaki. He says all issues with runner's were able to be handled on site.
