ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Everything is in place for one of the biggest weekends of the year in Albany, set to kick off on Saturday.

Tens of thousands of people will pack downtown for the Albany Marathon and Mardi Gras Street Festival.

The Hilton Garden Inn is serving as registration headquarters for the marathon. Hotel employees say they enjoy the business boost that the marathon brings to town each year.

"It greatly increases the growth that we have downtown. It's a magical event that brings thousands of guests to town," said Barrington Bryan, a Hilton Garden Inn hotel employee.

The weekend could have an economic impact of nearly $2 million dollars.
