MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -
One of Moultrie's longest running family businesses is closing its doors for good.
The Dalton family has been in the restaurant business in Moultrie for more than 50 years.
The family's latest venture - Dalton's Chicken - has been at its current location just off Veteran's Parkway since 1990.
Patsy Dalton Akridge decided last week to close her shop and retire. Customers say they'll miss the popular gathering spot.
Roscoe Stallings has been patronizing Dalton family eateries for all of those 50 plus years. "It's family, it's locally owned...very good food," he said.
For Akridge, closing the restaurant is bittersweet, but there are things that she's looking forward to.
"I was ready to retire. I've been in the restaurant for more than 50 years. I grew up in the restaurant and I wanted time to travel and spend time with my family," she said.
