NEWTON, GA (WALB) -

On Wednesday, the Baker County Board of Education issued a resolution not to renew the contract of Superintendent Freddie Thompson.

Thompson's contract expires on June 30, 2013, and this non-renewal effectively fires him from his post on that date.

No reason for the dismissal was given in the proclamation, however, the superintendent oversees one school, with a student body of only 400.

In tight economic times, the Baker board, like most others, is focused on ways to save money, and the benefit package for this post comes tom $140,000 annually.

The document was signed by Sharon Heard, Chairman of the Baker County Board of Education.
