SEMINOLE COUNTY -
Two men are in jail after a daring, midday bank robbery and a wild chase. Investigators believe those suspects robbed a bank in Donalsonville, stole a vehicle, and sped out of town.
The high speed chase ended near Iron City and then led to a manhunt. The typically quiet town of Donalsonville had a lot of unexpected and unwanted activity this afternoon when Peoples South Bank on Highway 91 was robbed.
"This is a good little community, it's small so everybody knows everybody. I know 90% of the people that come in my door and I can call them by first name, so that really means a lot," said nearby store owner Daniel Bernard.
"Everybody talks to everybody, they greet you even if they don't know you, where I'm from people don't really talk to you," said Donalsonville resident Jonathan Malone.
Around 1:30 in afternoon on Thursday one gunman entered the bank, an accomplice waited outside. According to residents, news of the robbery spread quickly. "I looked to the right, I saw GBI and all sorts of police cars, then I looked over and saw the bank, I guess the bank got robbed," said Malone.
A bank employee hit the silent alarm and Donalsonville Police arrived just as the men were taking off in a bank employee's SUV and that's when the chase began. A nearby business owner says that the robbery hits very close to home for him."I feel bad that it happened. My prayers go out to the families, if anybody was hurt or anything, I mean hopefully, they caught them," said Bernard.
The men led officers on a chase reaching speeds up to 125 miles per hour in the stolen GMC Denali. They ditched it and ran near Burroughs Lane Road in Seminole County. Officers from several agencies searched for several hours before capturing the suspects.
Investigators have not yet released the names of those suspects taken into custody this evening.
