LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

A man who led police on a two county chase after trying to rob a Lee County convenience store is in custody Thursday morning.

WALB has exclusive surveillance video of that failed robbery and part of that wild chase that went through parts of Northwest Albany.

Officials say John E. Hill entered the Double Gate EZ Mart around 12:30 Thursday morning and pulled a knife on the clerk and demanded money.

He didn't get away with anything but jumped in an SUV and took off. Lee County Sheriff's Deputies chased the would-be robber into Albany where part of the search for the suspect went by our news studio on Stuart Avenue.

Around 3 o'clock Thursday morning a suspect was arrested during a traffic stop on Haley Street in Lee County.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office issued this information-

At 12:49 a.m. on 02-28-13, Lee County Sheriff's Deputies responded to an active silent panic alarm at 1250 Highway 82 West (Double Gate EE-ZZ Mart).

While one of the deputies was in route, he was able to spot the suspect vehicle and got into a chase with the suspect.  He lost the suspect. Later at 4:03 a.m. on 02-28-13, another deputy spotted the suspect vehicle in the 100 block of Cedric Street.

At that time, he along with other deputies were able to apprehend the suspect without incident on Haley Street. No one was hurt. The suspect was still wearing the same clothes and the knife that was used in the robbery was located in the vehicle. The suspect is now in the Lee County Jail.
