Art park cleaned for Mardi Gras

Members of the Downtown Albany Arts Coalition are sprucing up the Albany art park in preparation for this weekend's Mardi Gras street festival.

Volunteers cleaned up the park Wednesday afternoon.

They took out loose bricks and got rid of other debris in the park in preparation for its unofficial opening.

Coalition officials say the weekend festival is a good way to show off the park to the public.

Mardi Gras brings out a lot of people so this was a community project and something we want to impress the community and give something back to them. So it will be a perfect opportunity for us to open it up," said Downtown Albany Arts Coalition President Cameron Malphrus.

City officials hope to have the park finished and officially opened in the next few months.
