LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

Lowndes County Commissioners vote to abandon the county's portion of a road that is the only access point to the Alapaha River in Lowndes county, essentially blocking public access to the river.

More than 300 people signed a petition asking the county not to turn the road over to the land owner.

The owner told officials he was tired of people trespassing and mistreating his land.

The county gave up about 800 feet of County Road 16, which the property owner says he plans to block off.
