ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany city commissioners honored the police department's officer of year.

Jean Casseus was chosen for his key work in breaking up some of the city's worst gangs.

He's been on the force for 5 years and serves on the gang unit.

He says it's an honor to be recognized as APD's top officer.

"I'm overwhelmed it's not an award you just come across very easily. You have to work very hard and put your soul into it," said Casseus.

The gang unit also honored public information Officer Phyllis Banks her work with the department.
