WORTH CO., GA (WALB) -

The Red Cross is helping families in Worth County displaced because of flooding.

A staging center that was temporarily set up at the Worth County community center Monday  closed just before 5pm.  It was open for several hours Monday afternoon to help families who needed a place to go.

"It gives the people that are affected a place to go, out of the weather. A safe, neutral location where they can receive some treatment immediately," said Nigel Poole, the Flint River Chapter Emergency Services Program Manager.

The staging center will only re-open if something drastic happens.

Red Cross only had to put up one family in a hotel.  Five families in Sylvester and three families in Poulan have evacuated because of flooding and are staying with relatives.

You can reach the Red Cross by calling 1-800-926-6001.  Of course, if you have a flooding emergency, you should call 911.
