Albany residents continue to pick up sandbags

People in Albany continue to pick up sandbags to protect their homes and businesses.

Albany Public works officials gave out more than 1500 bags Monday morning at their sight under the Hodges Avenue bridge.

Since Friday they've given out 6500 sandbags and have more than 3000 on hand.

They urge people concerned by rising water near their homes to come get sandbags.

"Yes. Absolutely," said Albany Public Works Sewer Superintendent Ann Zimmer-Shepherd. "Be prepared. Yes, we'll continue to make them as long as we need to. I don't think we are going to have a major problem from river flooding."

Albany public works crews continue to clean out storm lines and run pumps to lower holding ponds as more rain is expected overnight.
