Years of unfiled tax returns and back tax debt has led to criminal charges. DTR celebrates its 5th year milestone in helping taxpayers owing $10K+ settle their IRS back taxes for a fraction of their debt.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 23, 2013
Federal prosecutors say a Northern California man who belongs to a group that believes tax laws are unconstitutional has been convicted of committing nearly $1 million in income tax fraud. The U.S. Attorney’s office said Thursday that Randy Barker of Chico falsely claimed more than $1.4 million in income for 2008 and that the same amount had been withheld in taxes, leading to a refund of nearly $1 million. Court documents also say Barker is a member of the "Tax Challenger," a group that doesn't believe in tax laws. Barker could get 10 years in prison when he's sentenced May 1 (Case #: 2:12-cr-266-WBS Sacramento, CA).
Another case involves Ian Christopherson, an attorney from Las Vegas, Nevada. He was sentenced to 33 months in prison and fined $728,786 in restitution by the Department Of Justice and IRS. Christopherson was convicted of two counts of income tax evasion for his federal individual income taxes and for federal employment taxes (Case No. 2:09-cr-00056-MMD-RJJ Las Vegas, NV).
