Just when you think the rain is gone, think again. Most of South Georgia is forecasted to get 2 to 4 inches of rain over the weekend. Some areas could get up to 10 inches. That means the possibility of flooding is back on the minds of many folks in southwest Georgia.
But emergency officials say they're more ready now than they've ever been. Free programs like Code Red here in Dougherty County alert people when severe weather enters the area. Whether it's tornadoes, thunderstorms or flash flooding, the free phone call alert is just another way to stay prepared during this dangerous flood season.
"It doesn't alert the entire county but just the path. We encourage people to join that program. It's a free program. They can either go on the Internet, the city's web site and look that up and fill out the information or they can the fire department and I'll put the information in for them," says Dougherty Co. EMA Director Jim Vaught.
Officials with the American Red Cross say they're prepared to set up shelters anywhere between Albany to Lake Seminole, if need be. Now they're say they need volunteers.
