Organizers prep for Turtle Race

You can support the Flint Riverquarium and have a chance at winning $5,000.

The Riverquarium's annual Turtle Race is coming up a week from Saturday.

Thousands of rubber turtles will be dumped into the Riverquarium's waterfall to see which one makes it down first.

First prize is $5,000.

The race will be at four o'clock on March 2nd, the same day as the Albany marathon and downtown Mardi Gras street party.

"It's also one more thing for the community to do on the same day as Mardi Gras. This year we're going to be down in the middle of Mardi Gras, so that'll be fun," said Event Organizer Vicki Churchman.

The cost to adopt one turtle is $5, but you can get five for $20, 13 for $50 and 26 for $100.

You can adopt them at the Riverquarium or online.
