ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Following the death of an 81-year old Dougherty County woman, prosecutors are considering upgrading charges against her sons who are accused of abusing her.

81-year old Verma Walker died Tuesday.

Her sons, 59-year old Vernon West and 55-year old Roderick West, remain in the Dougherty County jail charged with elder abuse.

Paramedics found Walker, a former Dougherty County teacher, in a filthy room at her home on Betty's Drive in November.

They said then it appeared she hadn't been fed in weeks.

The coroner says the cause of Walker's death is still undetermined.
