WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., was ranked by National Journal Magazine as the 11th most conservative member of the United States Senate.

"It's an honor to be recognized for voting in a conservative manner," Chambliss said. "I will continue to strongly advocate for measures that uphold our Constitution and America's core principles."

Chambliss was ranked as the Senate's most conservative member by the National Journal in 2010. He has also received the "Taxpayers' Friend Award" from the National Taxpayers Union, the "Spirit of Enterprise" award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the "Defender of Liberty" award from the American Conservative Union.

National Journal ratings examine all of the roll-call votes in Congress from the previous year to create an ideological comparison between the votes of each member of Congress. Members are then ranked according to an index created by National Journal, which allocates a numerical weight from 1 to 3 based on the liberal or conservative correlation to the vote.

A conservative percentile score is given to each member based on the number of conservative votes he or she made as compared to the percentage of other members.

Ranked as the most conservative senator is Sen. Jim Risch (R-Idaho) followed by Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas), Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), Pat Toomey (R-Penn), Ron Johnson (R-Wis), Rand Paul (R-K.Y.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Michael Enzi (R-W. Y.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah). The complete list can be found here.
