ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Some folks in Albany are working to get the city named a National Heritage Area. Consultant Elizabeth Watson from Maryland spoke at Thronateeska Heritage Center on Wednesday about what it takes to earn the designation.
She says the program only accepts special places and she hopes that people in Albany will commit to doing what it takes to get the area the attention it deserves.
"Albany will have to work to get chosen it doesn't just happen and it takes time, there is a process that park service's put into place they ask you to do a feasibility study, they ask you to list all of your special resources and all of the types of partnerships you may have and how you want to improve visitor experience and then they work with you but you have to go to congress," said Watson.
