VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta School board members have chosen a new superintendent.

Current superintendent Dr. Bill Cason is retiring after the school year.

Board members picked Martin Roesch as his replacement. He's currently the assistant superintendent of finance for the Valdosta City School System.

He served as Principal at Valdosta Middle School for ten years and has spent his entire 25-year career in the Valdosta school system.

"It's been a lifelong dream of mine since I became an educator to eventually become the superintendent of the school district," said Roesch.

Roesch will take over on July 1st.
