TIFTON, GA (WALB) -
One of the oldest institutions of higher learning in our area celebrated its birthday Wednesday.
On February 20th, 1908, 27 students and three teachers entered Tift Hall on the campus of what was then the Second District A and M school.
Today, it's Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and has 3200 students.
The refurbished front end of campus, containing the college's three original buildings will be re-dedicated on March 1st, although some administrative functions are already located there.
Ashley Mock, ABAC's Director of Public Relations said, "it was really exciting to be able to move back to the front of campus this past summer and to be able to get the president's office and public relations back to the front of campus. But it's really exciting to be able to open the doors to Lewis and Herring Hall as well next week and to be able to open the lawn."
The most popular major on campus today is nursing.
The first classes 105 years ago focused on agriculture and mechanical trades.
