Southwest Georgia Technical College (SWGTC) is hosting a lecture on "The Emancipation Proclamation Revisited: Abolition as a Military Strategy," at 4:30 p.m. in the Lecture Hall of the Health Science Building (Building B).
This presentation will be made by published author and Valdosta State University associate professor of history & African American studies professor Dr. Thomas Aiello as part of African American History Month.
The Emancipation Proclamation was issued by Abraham Lincoln on January 1st 1863 and is considered one of the most important documents of American history, as it declared slaves living in the Confederate territory free.
Aiello, published author and assistant professor of history and African American studies at Valdosta State University, has dedicated much of his life studying African American history and speaks on the topic as often as possible.
SWGTC offers more than 80 certificate, diploma, and degree programs. Many of these programs provide training for some of the nation's fastest-growing career fields including Nursing, Automotive Technology, Clinical Laboratory Technology, and Emergency Medical Technology.
