THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -
An African American history author and professor will provide a unique perspective Wednesday on a 150 year-old document.
Dr. Thomas Aiello will present "The Emancipation Proclamation Revisited" at Southwest Georgia Technical College in Thomasville.
Aiello will discuss the Proclamation as a military strategy rather than just the humane argument.
"It's important at this time, especially because of yesterday, where the state of Mississippi actually accepted the 13th Amendment to the Constitution and finally abolished slavery. Now slavery hasn't existed since the Civil War there, but it just shows how important the Emancipation Proclamation still is in American Society," said History Instructor Joshua Butler.
The free lecture will be held Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 in the Lecture Hall of Building B. For more information visit www.southwestgatech.edu.
