Schools to receive external defibrillators

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Elementary schools in Dougherty County will receive $25,500 in emergency medical equipment, today, as part of a grant from Firehouse Subs Foundation.

The grant, funding 17 automated external defibrillators (AEDs), pediatric electrode pads and cabinets, was made to Phoebe's Network of Trust School Health Program from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

The devices will be placed in each of the Dougherty County elementary schools to help schools be prepared to provide life-saving assistance if a student, staff member or visitor goes into cardiac arrest.

"We are thrilled to be the recipients of this generous donation from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation," says Angie Barber, director of Network of Trust. "The benefits that this grant will have in our public schools, and the security that parents will have knowing that this technology exists within the walls of the school, are immeasurable."

The presentation is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the Firehouse Subs restaurant, 2416 Dawson Rd.

Representatives from Phoebe, Firehouse Subs, and school officials and school nurses, as well as local leaders and first responders, will be part of an event celebrating the donation.

The event is also part of Phoebe's National Heart Month "Love Your Heart" campaign.
