Burglar squeezes through drop-off box at Moultrie business

MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

Forget smash and grab.

Moultrie Police are searching for a squeeze and squirm burglar, Monday night.

He broke into a dry cleaner by crawling through the business's overnight drop-off box.

Cops and the store owner are still trying to figure out how an averaged sized man could fit through a 10.5 in. x 15 in. drop-off box. Investigators tell me it's one of the most unusual break-ins they've ever seen.

"This is going to be your drop box. You can see the individual walkup then you'll see bits and pieces of him start showing up inside the store," said Cpl. Eric Fries.

And limb by limb, this crook made his way into the Modern Cleaners in Moultrie late last week.

Squeezing through the dry cleaner's overnight drop-off box that is a little wider than a ruler, with what seems to be little effort.

The thief didn't make if far into the business before tripping the store's motion alarm and then he leaves the same way he came, crawling back through the opening and getting away with a couple articles of clothing.

"I think this is my first involving something like this that they've actually gone through that. Talking with the store owner, I don't think they've ever had a problem like this as long as they've been open," said Cpl. Fries.

Police think the burglar is 5'5" to 5'8" and about 150 pounds and definitely determined.

"Desperation or opportunity, I guess, is what we can chalk it up to," said Cpl. Fries.

Now police need your help to find this man before he slithers into another business and strikes again.

The owner of the store didn't want to go on camera, but told me he is taking steps to make sure another thief can't fit through that drop-off box again.

That burglar was wearing a camouflage jacket and blue jeans.

If you have any idea who he is, you're asked to call Moultrie police.
