ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Albany Police have a waiting list of people with mental disorders whose families want to equip them with Project Lifesaver tracking devices. They need your help to raise money for the devices.
Project Lifesaver can help police quickly track people who have a history of wandering. APD has the locating equipment, but families have to pay $250 for the tracking transmitter, and $15 a month for the equipment maintenance. Monday Albany Police met with agencies whose clients could use the equipment, to mount a fund raising campaign.
"The hold up is we have to get some funding to purchase more transmitters, " said Albany Police Detective Kawaski Barnes. "But as soon as we get more transmitters in, I think we already have applications waiting. For them to be right back out as soon as they come in."
