CAIRO, GA (WALB) -

10 NBA seasons, nearly 20 more as an analyst, but Mike Glenn says he is at his best when speaking with students.

"Kind of reinforces and inspires you. It's like someone giving you some congratulations or a pat on the back and recognizing the value of what you put so much energy into presenting. So I'm very thankful of that. I'm thankful of the opportunities to speak to these young students."

Glenn spoke to the students at Cairo High School today about his collection of black history artifacts, his love for education, and his time helping others.

"Both my parents were teachers and my mom always asked the question, what lesson did you learn? So I could always summarize, analyze, compare and contrast, and then I was able to do that to small groups and the groups got bigger and bigger."

Glenn not only spoke to the students about black history and education, but also about his founding of the first deaf basketball camp.

Glenn was also an honor student and achieved 12 consecutive years of perfect attendance.

"A lot of athletes didn't know they could be good students too. They thought they could only be athletes is all they had to do. So accept that challenge and be a good student. You can be a good student and a good athlete. Have success on many levels. So I do want to inspire them to do that."

Using sources from his library, Glenn has written several biographical books on famous African-Americans.

The Mike Glenn All-Star Basketball Camp for the Hearing-Impaired is offered every summer, free of charge, to as many as 120 deaf athletes from across the country.
