Georgia Supreme Court Rules on Albany cases

The Supreme Court of Georgia has ruled in two Dougherty County cases.

The Court has unanimously upheld the convictions and life prison sentence, with no chance of parole,  given to Tiffany Luchin Wise for the 2009 high-profile killing of 88-year-old Mabel Berry, a volunteer at the Albany Rescue Mission.

In May 2009, 33-year old Wise was a recovering drug addict who went on an all night cocaine binge.

The next morning, she drove to Berry's Albany home and struck Berry in the head with a rock.

In another case, The Supreme Court of Georgia unanimously  upheld a Dougherty County court decision denying Tracy Lashawn Smith's claim that retrying him for the murder of Jerome Walden would violate his constitutional right against double jeopardy.

The case against Smith can go forward.  Smith is accused of beating Walden June 24, 2011 after he felt "disrespected" during a drug deal.
