Albany, GA - The 1700 block of Stuart Avenue was blocked Sunday while a large tree was removed in an attempt to repair a broken water main.

The large pine tree, at 1705 Stuart Avenue, was on top of the water line that ruptured Saturday night.

Albany Water, Gas & Light crews tell WALB News 10 that the tree's roots were wrapped around the water line.

Saturday's high winds caused the tall pine to sway so much that the roots that were wrapped around the water line shifted, and the water line burst.

That sent water flooding onto Stuart Avenue.

Crews used a backhoe to remove the tree and dig out the roots so they could repair the water line.

Water to four homes and to WALB-TV was shut off until the repairs were complete.

A boil water advisory is in effect until Monday for those who lost water.

WG&L says Saturday night's freezing temperatures were not a factor in the water line rupture.
