The Lanier County Sheriff's Office and the GBI are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and two others injured.

Deputies received a call around 12:48pm Saturday about a shooting at a home off Highway 125 in the western part of Lanier County.

Authorities say when they arrived they found two people who had been shot and a third person was dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officials say one of the victims was taken to South Georgia Medical Center, while the other was airlifted to a Gainesville hospital.

Deputies say the two victims are in serious, but stable condition and are still undergoing treatment.

The person whom authorities believe shot the two victims was declared dead at the scene.

No names have been released at this time.

Sheriff Norton released this statement:

"Our hearts and prayers go out to the family members of the victims as they wait to see the outcome of this tragedy but we are all hoping and believing for full recovery for the victims. To the family of the deceased we extend our condolences and prayers as well.

I would like to personally thank all the 911 center staff, the first responders from both Lanier and Berrien county, the Life-Flight crew, the staff at South Georgia Medical Center, our law enforcement brothers and sisters from Berrien and Lowndes Counties, the GBI and my staff. Incidents like this require everyone to do their absolute best and cooperate at the highest level possible and to a man and woman that is what I saw today."
