ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
The Albany 9-1-1 Center will get a complete makeover in the next 18 months.
The 9-1-1 center will upgrade their equipment, some of which is 30 years old and considered obsolete by the manufacturers. This morning, Albany officials met with suppliers to schedule the 837 thousand dollar equipment upgrade for their 9-1-1 phone system.
"At this point we know we've got 12 to 18 months, and then they will not support it at all," said Albany Fire Department Chief James Carswell . So we have to get this part done. And that's one of the things we discussed in the meeting, was scheduling all that so we did not work against ourselves in the bigger picture of things."
The upgrade to the Albany 9-1-1 center will involve all their equipment in telephone, computer, and emergency radio phases, and they have to schedule the replacement or upgrade of all three before any of the work begins. That will be hopefully in April.
