South Georgia educators proud to have President's support

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Georgia educators say they're thrilled President Obama is praising the success of our state's pre-kindergarten program.

The President toured a childhood education center in Decatur Thursday to highlight his push to make pre-school available to all 4 year-olds in the country.

He says studies prove that students who start school in pre-kindergarten are more successful throughout their school years than those who don't.

South Georgia educators agree. Sylvandale Academy principal Gloria Kendall said, "We know what we do. We know it's important for a child to be in school. We know we're not babysitting. We know all of these things, but to hear the President take an interest in it and recognize Georgia, it was like the ultimate thing."

The President singled out Georgia in his State of the Union address for making early education a priority.

Lottery proceeds pay for free pre-k for most 4-year olds in the state.
