ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Students at Albany State University are partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank in a national competition to help end hunger.

ASU is one of 100 colleges taking part in Campbell's "Let's Can Hunger" food drive.

Students hope you'll donate and help them reach their goal of collecting 5,000 pounds of non-perishable canned food this Saturday.

"It was something that we felt was a dire need here in Albany, Georgia and we felt that we can make a difference as college students so we applied and was awarded $300 to start the competition," said event organizer Khadijah Nuriddin.

The four colleges that collect the most food will receive $5,000 grants to fund hunger-prevention service projects.

The food drive will be Saturday at the Samford Gymnasium field at ASU from noon to 4.
