ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Sixteen families were evacuated in Sylvester today. The Red Cross assisted three families who are now staying in a hotel and the others are staying with family members. Officials are out on the scenes to assess damage.

In Dougherty County there are several roads that the Department of Transportation and Public Works has closed due to the extensive flooding.

Those roads include... 

  • Holly Drive from Mock Road to Highway 19 is closed
  • 3,000 block of Spring Flats Road.
  • Radial Drive in Albany has evacuations underway
  • There's shallow water on Moultrie Rd- SR 133 at Dougherty/Worth line, but traffic is being directed through by a flagman
  • The creek on Douthit Rd. next to Tempy in Worth County is overflowing
  • Parts of highway 129 in Ben Hill County are also closed.
  • Cars are unable to get through on many outlying roads in the county In Tift County Sutton Circle Road, Old Brookville Road, Richards Drive, and Robert Oliver Drive are closed to traffic due to flooding.
  • North Monitor Drive Fitzgerald, and Chattahoochee Street

And Officials aren't sure how long those roads will be closed. We will let you know as soon as they re-open.

The GA DOT says: "We have no road closures on state routes at this time. There is standing water in the roadway on SR 133 at the Worth/Colquitt counties line; but it is receding and the road remains open.

"The  same situation on SR 234 near SR 3 in Albany. We don't have info on city streets or county roads that may be affected."
