ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Flint River Chapter of the American Red Cross is monitoring weather alerts in the 24 south Georgia counties they support and urging people to have a plan in case of problems.

With more than 5 inches of rain in the last week in many areas, a flash flood watch continues.

In Albany, public works officials continue to pump out holding ponds in preparation for more storms expected tonight.

The Red Cross says it's a good time for people to prepare an emergency kit and plan.

We do want everybody to have their things together just in case they had to leave their house. We have our 5 pre-identified shelter locations in Southwest Georgia. So if the needs arises we will be ready and we will be there to take care of the people.>

The American Red Cross recommends every family have an emergency kit like this ready in case you have to leave your home quickly.

It should include important papers, cash, three days worth of medicine, water, and food.  You can link to the American Red Cross information page here.
