ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

As the board looks for ways to cut back, one member suggests creating a new school.

Robert Youngblood wants to see if the Marine Corps Logistics Base would like to partner with the system on a K-8 charter school at base.

He says it could increase funding the system gets from that state and has nothing to do with proposed school closures.

"This is a separate issue from the closing. This is an effort to recoup FTE's and funding, so it's predicated on the possibility that we can get enough FTE's and students back into the school system to make this concept work," said Youngblood.

Boards members decided to meet with MCLB officials soon to see if they would be interested in exploring the option.
