FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) -

Two children have no parents after a deadly case of domestic violence in their home, Monday.

A Fitzgerald woman died a few hours after the husband, from whom she was trying to separate, shot her then killed himself.

We're told the victim begged for her life before she was gunned down.

"Very shocking, very," said neighbor Sara Pittman.

Pittman couldn't believe the news that her neighbor, 24-year old Courtney Whipple, died after being shot by her husband.

The husband was 27-year old Jamaal Whipple, who then took his own life, all while the couple's one and two- year-old children were in the apartment.

"What got me so mad was when I found out those two children were in that apartment when he was doing the shooting," said Pittman.

Police say Whipple was shot twice by her husband, once in the head and the stomach.

She was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon where she died.

One next door neighbor who did not want to talk on camera said he heard Whipple pleading for her life before the fatal shots were fired and one of the bullets went through the wall and hit his dryer.

Fitzgerald Police say the couple had a history of domestic violence.

"There had been a few reports in the past where the lady was having problems with the marriage and was trying to move on and separate herself from this and it may have caused the male to not want to separate," said Detective Sgt. James Tilley with the Fitzgerald Police Department.

Now this small community is left to mourn a life that was taken too soon.

"In March, I'll be here for eight years and this has just shocked me. It's a shock because it's usually a quiet neighborhood out here," said Pittman.

Cops say those two young children that were inside of the home at the time are ok and they're with their grandmother.

Police tell us the children were upstairs and did not see the shooting.
