COLQUITT CO., GA (WALB) -

Students at Colquitt County high school are helping supply their cafeteria with homegrown vegetables. The students are growing the veggies themselves at the greenhouse at the school.

The school is only one of a handful of schools around Georgia chosen to participate in the "farm to School program". Students maintain their own row of a crop and complete all tasks including preparing the soil, fertilizing, scouting for pests, watering and harvesting.

"People don't understand what it takes and how long it takes to grow a plant, and what all you have to work at to do it," said Cameron Boyd a 12th grader at CCHS. They won't be able to supply enough to feed the entire school but they do plan to give students a little taste once those vegetables are ready to harvest.
