    The Albany Police Depart is engaged in a recruitment campaign to get its officer corps up to full strength. APD is budgeted for 214 officers, and right now is about 20 officers short of that level, and

Update:

A woman is in fair condition Monday night after a serious crash at a busy Albany intersection.

64 year-old Freda Venisee remains hospitalized after she had to be extracted from her car.

She was making a left turn around 7pm Sunday night at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Oakridge Drive.

Witnesses say 30 year-old Breton Nelson ran the red light in his Crown Victoria and hit Venisee's Lexus.

Nelson was treated at a hospital and released.  Police cited him for a red light violation.

A two car crash in a busy Albany intersection sends two people to the hospital.

It happened around 7pm Sunday at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Oakridge Drive.

Witnesses told Albany Police that 64 year-old Freeta Venisee, was taking a left in her Lexus, when 30 year-old Breton Nelson, ran the red light in his Crown Victoria and hit her. 

The impact caused the Lexus to flip over and Venisee had to be extracted from the car.

Both were taken to the hospital. Their injuries are unknown at this time.

Nelson received a citation for a red light violation.
