Men walk in heels for good cause

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Men walked a mile in high heels today to support the victims of sexual abuse.

Hundreds of men strapped on red high heels for the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Event in Albany.

It may not seem like a challenge to women, but for men, walking a mile in high heels can be, well, challenging.

"Toes all bunched up in the front, hard to balance, I don't know how people walk in these on a regular basis," says Bradley Winn, Participant.

It is a small price to pay to raise money for a good cause.

"4 laps around the track, I heard some are going to jog, I definitely will be walking," says Winn.

While it may seem like a silly event, it has a very serious mission.

The money raised benefits the Lily Pad which helps victims of sexual assault and abuse.

"Many times the people who come into our center from assault, either the women or the children, they feel alone, they feel that they are left out," says Cassandra Wright, Lily Pad Exec Director.

But today, over 100 men in the community squeezed in to high heels to show those victims, they are not alone.

"When you get a group of these men, strong big men in red high heels walking around, you know that there is support, to show that they do care," says Wright.

Some of these men are in law enforcement, and see just how common sexual abuse is.

"We will never know how that person actually feels and all we can do is be there of that family, support them at all cost," says Cpl. Anthony Crimbley, Dougherty Co. Sheriff's Office.

It took some men longer than others to complete the mile, but for most of them it will take much longer to soothe those aching feet.

The Lily Pad's sexual assault response program serves over 30 counties around south Georgia.
