ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Friday, an Albany civic group honored the men and women who help keep us safe.

The Exchange Club of Albany held a luncheon to honor officers of the year from Dougherty and Lee County agencies as well as the Department of Natural Resources and the Georgia State Patrol.

Honorees received plaques and gifts, but they say the real reward is being recognized by the community that they serve.

Albany Police Department Corporal Jean Casseus was the APD Officer Of The Year.  He said: "a lot of people think that people in the community don't like the police.  That is so untrue."

The Exchange Club has been honoring local law enforcers with this luncheon for more than 50 years.

The other honorees were:

From the Dougherty County Police, Patrol Officer Richard French.

From the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office, Sergeant Travis Davis.

From the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Ranger First Class Tony Cox.

From the Georgia State Patrol, Trooper First Class Christopher Jewell.

From the Lee County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Timothy Holman.
