ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
A Dougherty County man says crooks stole his identity, set up credit cards in his name, and racked up more than $2,000 worth of purchases.
Jeffrey Bailey of Luke Drive told Dougherty County Police he credit card bills from Lowe's and Walmart, though he never opened the accounts.
There were more than $2,100 in charges to the Lowe's card in Atlanta and Norcross. The crooks bought tools, vacuum cleaners, and ceiling fans.
"Identity theft now a days is very rampant. We see it on a daily basis," said Dougherty County Police Sgt. Chad Kirkpatrick.
Investigators urge people to guard their financial information because thieves are targeting it.
Police are still investigating this case and working to get surveillance video of whoever made the purchases.
