ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

More than a thousand theater students from around the southeast and the Caribbean are performing in Albany this week.

Darton State College is hosting the Region Four Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF).

In addition to showing their talent, the students are interacting with professionals who work in all aspects of the theater industry.

Officials say the event will pump around $700,000 into the local economy and give Darton great exposure.

"It's a very distinguished recognition of Darton College to have them host this and be a host for this. It's bought an amazing array of artist. We have Tony award winning Broadway designers, television actors and performers," said KCACTF Region Chair Jeff Green.

The festival is a national program involving 18,000 students nationwide.
