According to the Smith County Sheriff's Department, a call was received by their agency at 1:35 p.m. Thursday regarding a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend near Chapel Hill. The residence where the assault occurred is located near the 13000 block of CR 285 in Smith County.
When deputies arrived, the man accused of assaulting the woman, now identified as Jason Brian Woods, fled into a wooded area behind the residence.
The Sheriff's Department said that Woods had evaded arrest on several occasions in the past year. An arrest warrant charging Woods with evading arrest was outstanding from a previous incident.
Numerous Smith County Sheriff's Deputies and officers of the Whitehouse Police Department responded to the area, as well as Whitehouse Police Department's tracking Canine Vox.
At the canine team was tracking Woods near the residence, he was observed re-entering the home, and deputies and officers made forced entry.
Woods was taken into custody after a brief attempt to resist and is being booked into the Smith County jail.
Bond on the previous charge of Evading had
been set at $75,000. Additional Evading charges will be pursued as
well.
