It is heartwrenching to watch a lifetime of memories slip away from Alzheimer's patients.

It's often said that the disease is much harder on the caregivers than on the patients, and thousands of you, right here in South Georgia, are dealing with the challenges of caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's.

There is a little good news for you. Georgia lawmakers just passed legislation that will improve services to Georgians with Alzheimer's disease and dementia.

Senate Bill 14 creates a new state task force, made up of six members, to document trends of people living with progressive and irreversible neurological disorders.

The task force will examine how they get treatment and look for ways to improve their care.

While this won't provide immediate relief to so many of you struggling with this disease, it is a step in the right direction.

As the senate bill now heads to the house, we call on South Georgia house members to support it and help our state move forward in the fight against this awful disease.
