Information from the GA Dept. of Transportation-
ATLANTA – State Transportation Board (STB) Chairman Johnny Floyd of Cordele was unanimously re-elected today to his second five-year term on the Board.
State legislators from Georgia's 2nd Congressional District quickly endorsed their popular former colleague to continue as the 2nd District's representative on the STB.
"I am excited about where we are headed in improving Georgia's transportation system and am very grateful to the delegation for giving me the opportunity to continue serving them and the citizens of 2nd District on the Board," said Floyd. "We have challenges for sure but we are working with Governor Deal and the leadership and members of the General Assembly to address them."
"Economic development for rural Georgians, mobility for commuters in our urban areas and the development of freight routes for Georgia's Ports and logistics industry are issues on which I certainly intend to focus during my chairmanship and next five years on the Board."
Mr. Floyd has served as Transportation Board Chairman since last August; after previously serving two one-year terms as its Vice Chairman. He served nearly 20 years as a distinguished and influential member of the Georgia General Assembly's House of Representatives before being elected to his first STB term in 2008.
Mr. Floyd is a prominent Cordele businessman. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ameris Bank and Ameris Holding Company in Moultrie until his mandatory age retirement. He is a member and past president of the Cordele Rotary Club.
