Federal government pushes free WiFi for all idea

The Federal Communications Commission is considering making free WiFi networks available across the country.

The FCC Commissioner suggests using spectrum from empty TV channels for a super WiFi, making Internet access free like broadcast television access.

Some south Georgia users say it sounds like a good idea, but it could face opposition from companies that make money from wi-fi. Smelvin Ali was using WiFi at Elements Coffee Shop. He said, "Probably a lot of Internet companies will lose a lot of money and businesses like coffee shops."

Of course, the FCC only allocates airwaves. Someone else would have to build the networks.

That would be costly and time consuming.
