ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
The city of Albany is helping women get into shape.
Around 20 women gathered at the Jackson Heights Fitness and Wellness Center for a Night of Fun for Women Only.
They got a lesson on using free weights and tried hip hop abs and other exercise dance routines.
Organizers say they want to reach woman who might not be comfortable working out in front of others, especially men.
"I think after they leave tonight and when they come back they won't be intimidated to try something new. We had a bunch do hip hop abs that have never done it before, but they did it tonight because there were no men in the building, so I think they'll do it now," said Donna Rountree.
Folks from the YMCA were also there to measure body mass index.
The Recreation and Parks Department plans to hold the event again soon.
