OCILLA, GA (WALB) -
A green Toyota Tercel is wrapped with crime scene tape inside an Irwin County impound lot. It was in the driver's seat of the car where 24-year-old Adam Cory Santos was shot Monday afternoon.
"The Irwin County Sheriff's Office got the call and responded to Tift Regional Medical Center and that's when we learned the shooting took place in the city of Ocilla," said Ocilla Police Detective Doug Douglas.
He said the shooting happened sometime between 3:30 and 4:00 PM outside Bud's Game Room at the corner McKinley and Roosevelt.
It's a shooting that could have very well turned deadly.
"It looks like the shooter was very close when he was shot and it looks to be a small caliber firearm," Douglas said.
The bullet passed through Santos chest and went through the driver's seat before landing in the back floor board of the car.
Because the shooting happened in the middle of the afternoon, Douglas is hopeful someone saw the victim's car and perhaps the man who shot him.
"We're hoping that a neighbor might have seen something or a witness that heard something who could come forward and help us with the investigation."
Dora Moses owns Bud's Game Room and says it's unfortunate this happened outside her business which was closed Monday afternoon.
"We don't tolerate that type of business nor that activity around the game room. The game room was not open at that time," said Moses.
Police believe the victim knows who his shooter is, but they don't have a name. Right now they're hoping the aid of a daylight crime could shed some light on what led up to the shooting.
"Right now we only have his side of the story. We'd like to know what happened on the other end of the incident," said Douglas.
Santos is being treated at Tift Regional Medical Center.
If you have any information about that shooting call Ocilla Police at 468-7494.
