LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

Dozens of prospective buyers were at the Lee County Courthouse Tuesday hoping to get good deals on real estate, but most of the property scheduled for auction wasn't sold.

115 properties were listed for auction because of unpaid taxes. Lee County's tax director pushed the tax sales back from November, to give people more time around the holidays.

But officials say most of the property owners rushed in to pay the delinquent taxes Monday or even Tuesday morning, before they could be sold.

"Yea, we had a mad house rush at the last minute", said Delinquent Tax Services President John Watson.  "Usually the office opens up at about 8 o-clock so we can't start our sale until 10 o-clock. So there is a two hour rush everybody was coming in at the last minute. We were working out payment arrangements and taking moneys."

Of the 115 posted properties, only 10 privately held pieces of property were actually put up for auction Tuesday, plus 7 abandoned mobile homes.
