District 11 votes for new state senator

THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) -

Voters in eight south Georgia counties have until 7 Tuesday night to decide who will replace John Bulloch in the state senate.

Either OBGYN and Bainbridge City Councilman Dean Burke or former congressional nominee Mike Keown will represent District 11 in Atlanta.

Tuesday's election is a runoff from the January 8th Special Election which featured six candidates on the ballot.

And election officials say Tuesday's turnout has been solid.

"It starts with the local people and the local representative is important to us. Of course the President is important too, but the local man is who we have the most contact with," said Thomas County Voter Albert Channell.

The polls in Colquitt, Decatur, Seminole, Grady, Miller, Mitchell, Early, and Thomas Counties close at 7.
