ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Dougherty County School System announced that the location for the Public Hearing concerning proposed school closures has changed.

The group will meet in the City-County Government Building, Commission Meeting Room at noon, Thursday. The change of venue is made to accommodate citizen attendance.

The crowd spilled out into the hallway at Monday's meeting.

Under the plan, two schools in east Albany would be shut down. The first of two public hearings was held Monday, with an over-flow crowd.

Consultants presented school board members with a plan to close Dougherty Middle and Sylvester Road Elementary and re-purpose Magnolia Elementary.

If it goes through it would save the system two million dollars a year in the general fund and avoid $11 million in needed renovations to those schools.
